For All Who Will Follow

June 8th, 2005

Woke up this morning, inside my head
Will I think of You or me instead?

I don’t want to isolate myself anymore
While You’re standing there knocking on my door

You showed us the way when You died
That self-denial is the path to life

For all who will follow
You say, “Come, take up your cross today.”
And Lord, I am Yours now
Raise me up to lose myself for Your sake

You didn’t think of Yourself when You came down
You said the least is where greatness is found.

Your obedient death reveals Your mind
The beautiful path is to leave this life behind

And now Your name’s been raised high
You are the Lord we all will glorify

For all who will follow
You say, “Come, take up your cross today.”
And Lord, I am Yours now
Raise me up to lose myself for Your sake

If we sell all that we have
Money, people, houses, lands
Our treasure will be heavenly

If we are willing to die
To live our life a sacrifice
We’ll reign with Christ eternally

For all who will follow
You say, “Come, take up your cross today.”
And Lord, I am Yours now
Raise me up to lose myself for Your sake

Tracknotes

This was one of the many songs we wrote while house-sitting at the Chapins. We wanted to write a song about the self-denial that is so essential to the Christian life from Luke 9:23. This song filled up all 24 tracks on the digi, that’s a lot of Ty Sager! Which in my opinion, is a good thing!

It truly is a beautiful path when we follow the Lord, living life from an eternal/heavenly perspective rather than a temporal/earthly focus. It’s not always a comfortable path, definitely not a trouble-free one, but we can face whatever God brings our way confident that He is at work in our lives for our good and for His glory.

My favorite line in this song is: “You showed us the way when You died
That self-denial is the path to life” Life seems to be a constant battle of self, will I think of Him or me instead? When I’m living for myself I feel very lost because that path goes wherever my desires lead. This song is a challenging call to walk on the path that Christ has set out for us. Calling those who will follow Him to obedience, selflessness and confidence in the Father’s will. He’s working all our steps together for good, we must be faithful to follow.

I have to agree with Christa. That line stuck out.

I found the bridges to quick, but you did enough with the instrumentation. And seriously, you guys need a drummer.

    Keep on making good music!

“Woke up this morning inside my head” is that as opposed to waking up outside my head? :)

Seriously your song deals with the heart of the issue. We have to lose our life for Christ if we really want to know life – abundant life. So many struggle because they want to live for self and Christ. They know that they know they should believe, but they want to hold on to the world and their sin. I hope your music gains a wide audience. Biblical, Christ-centered music is definitely needed. Your songs are a cool breeze in a hot, dry land.

Awesome song! Loved the music, words and instrumentation. Thanks for sharing your gifts of music and verse. Seeing you young folks loving and living for Jesus is a blessing and inspiration to us “old folks!” What a vivid message regarding the issues we all struggle with daily – the battle between living for Christ and self! God bless you all.

“I don’t want to isolate myself anymore” were the words that stood out for me.It was a reminder for me that the Christian life is not to be lived out in isolation. We need each other, we really do need each other—to hold one another accountable, to love one another unconditionally and to bear one another’s burdens. Keep on singin and strummin ya’ll!

    For the glory of God!!

“I don’t want to isolate myself anymore” stood out for me as well…that was the story of my life for a while. Thanks for reminding me that isolation is not an option for a true believer.

A truly great song…thanks for continuing to produce quality God-entranced music.

But what I really want to know is this: Where did you get that picture of a beautiful path?

Thanks to all of you for your comments! What an encouragement! We really want this site to be a place for all of your voices so please express anything that God puts on your heart. The idea for the “Beatiful Path” that we refer to in the lyrics was inspired by my late Grandma Olsen. The picture was taken at the Believers Fellowship High School Retreat in 2004.
